Oldman, who played Sirius Black in the film franchise, said the movies had to cut major character moments and storylines to keep their running times manageable. He believes the new series will be able to follow the books much more closely and give fans the depth the films couldn't fit in. The new Harry Potter series is scheduled to debut around Christmas 2026 on HBO and HBO Max with an entirely new cast.
