Keanu Reeves is taking over the lead role in Maelstrom, a new Netflix action thriller from director Jaume Collet-Serra, known for Carry-On. Reeves replaces Reacher star Alan Ritchson, who exited the project for undisclosed reasons. The story follows a federal marshal tasked with protecting the fiancée of an arms dealer turned witness. When a hurricane knocks out communications and traps them inside a safe house, the marshal must fight off the dealer’s men without backup. The project has been in development for decades, originally being set up at Warner Bros. in 1993.
