Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco marked their first wedding anniversary with a very old-school tradition: eating a piece of their wedding cake — which, somehow, had survived an encounter with Martin Short. Blanco shared a photo Sunday of a preserved slice from the couple’s 2025 wedding, writing, “year old cake never tasted so good.” He also posted a wedding photo with the caption, “1 year down… forever to go…” Blanco had previously explained that Gomez’s grandmother told them they were supposed to save part of the cake and eat it on their first anniversary. The problem was, their cake almost didn't make it that long. According to Blanco, Martin Short apparently mistook the small cake at the reception for a decoration or prop and ate part of it with his hand. The cake had to be reconstructed afterward, leaving the couple with six slices to save. Blanco joked that he hoped the tradition only required them to eat the cake on their first anniversary because he didn't want to be eating it six years later. He also admitted he hadn't wrapped it properly and wondered if it might have gotten a little “furry.” Gomez celebrated by posting a photo of herself and Blanco embracing in their custom Ralph Lauren wedding outfits, writing, “Happy anniversary my love. I love you to the moon and back.”
