The woman accused of firing 20 rounds from an AR-15-style rifle at Rihanna’s Los Angeles home has been found competent to stand trial. Ivanna Ortiz, 36, appeared in court yesterday as a judge reinstated criminal proceedings after receiving a mental-health evaluation. Ortiz previously pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling. Prosecutors allege Ortiz drove to Rihanna’s home on March 8 while Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, their three children and Rihanna’s mother were there. Rihanna and Rocky were inside an Airstream trailer when the gunfire erupted. According to police, Rihanna saw bullet holes in the windshield and pulled Rocky to the ground before the couple rushed to protect their children and staff. Investigators say bullets struck the home’s gates, fence and the trailer. A police helicopter later located a white Tesla allegedly fleeing the area, leading to Ortiz’s arrest. Prosecutors have described the shooting as deliberate and dangerous, pointing to allegations that Ortiz arrived with a loaded rifle, ammunition and a wig as a disguise. Before the alleged shooting, Ortiz had reportedly posted videos and messages directly addressing Rihanna, including one in which she referenced Rihanna’s death. Ortiz, who previously worked as a licensed speech pathologist in California, has also been barred from practicing while the criminal case is pending.
