Ben Stiller will star in and executive produce Protective Custody, a new comedy series being developed by Mike Judge for Apple. The series follows a disgraced financier accused of massive fraud who lands in protective custody while awaiting trial. From there, he’s forced to survive prison politics, repair his shattered image and deal with the fallout from his actions. Think white-collar crime meets prison chaos — with awkward comedy layered on top. The show marks Stiller’s first lead role in a scripted comedy series outside of sketch television. Judge, best known for Silicon Valley, Beavis and Butt-Head and King of the Hill, will co-write, co-run and direct the project alongside writers Steve Hely and Dave King. According to reports, the original pitch was described as Hogan’s Heroes meets The Office — which sounds either brilliant or like HR’s worst nightmare.
