Prince's iconic Purple Rain is headed to Broadway. The stage adaptation will begin previews on March 12, 2027, at New York City's Majestic Theatre, with its official opening set for April 12. Based on the classic 1984 film, the musical tells the story of "The Kid," an ambitious young musician trying to make it big while confronting personal struggles that threaten his future. The production will feature Prince's legendary music, including hits like "Let's Go Crazy," "When Doves Cry," and "Purple Rain." The Broadway production will be directed by Saheem Ali, with a book by Peter Duhan, choreography by Ebony Williams, and a music team led by Jason Michael Webb. Casting has not yet been announced. The musical previously debuted in Minneapolis in 2025, where Kris Kollins played The Kid.
