Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Digger, a new film starring Tom Cruise and directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Cruise undergoes a dramatic transformation to play Digger Rockwell, a rough-talking, overweight Southern oil tycoon who may have triggered a global environmental catastrophe—and is then called on by the U.S. president, played by John Goodman, to help save the planet. The film blends political satire, dark comedy, and disaster drama, with Iñárritu describing it as a story where "Mother Nature loves motherf***ers." Cruise said the role is unlike anything he's done before, comparing it to past transformative performances and noting it took decades of experience to fully embody the character. Shot in VistaVision with cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, Digger arrives in theaters on October 2.
