Martin Scorsese Backs AI Company And Says He's Using It To Storyboard Movies

Filmmaker Martin Scorsese has joined AI company Black Forest Labs as an adviser, becoming the latest major Hollywood director to embrace artificial intelligence as a filmmaking tool. Scorsese said he sees AI as another step in the evolution of cinema, comparing it to technologies he previously adopted in films like Hugo and The Irishman. He explained that AI can help him communicate visual ideas more quickly to production designers, cinematographers, and other members of his creative team. In a video announcing the partnership, Scorsese demonstrated using the company's AI tools to help storyboard scenes and said the technology could save time during pre-production while reducing strain on film crews. He stressed that the tool helps bring ideas to life faster without replacing the creative people who ultimately build the final product. Scorsese joins other prominent filmmakers exploring AI, including James Cameron and Peter Jackson, while others such as Guillermo del Toro have been outspoken critics of generative AI in filmmaking.
