As concert ticket prices continue to soar, some of the music industry's biggest stars are introducing limited numbers of deeply discounted tickets to help fans afford live shows. Artists including Coldplay, Olivia Rodrigo and Charli XCX are offering special tickets for around $20, despite average concert prices for major tours now topping $130, with many blockbuster shows costing more than $200 before fees. The low-cost tickets come with a catch: they're limited in number, seats are assigned at random, and buyers don't find out where they'll be sitting—or standing—until they arrive at the venue. Fans also have to pick up the tickets in person to discourage resellers. Coldplay's "Infinity Tickets" inspired Olivia Rodrigo's similar "Silver Star" program, while Coldplay says it borrowed the idea from the Rolling Stones' longtime "Lucky Dip" ticket program. Industry leaders say the discounted tickets don't make up a large portion of available seats, but they're intended to make concerts more accessible and build goodwill with fans who have been priced out of today's live music market.
