LEONARDTOWN, MD (July 27, 2026) – State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling announced today that Terrod Lamar Branson, 40, of Waldorf, Maryland, was sentenced to 30 years in prison with 21 years of active incarceration for the sexual abuse of a minor that occurred between 2023 and 2025.

“Few crimes are more disturbing and devastating than the sexual abuse of a child. These offenses shatter a child’s sense of safety, betray their trust, and inflict lasting trauma,” said State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling. “Every child deserves to be safe. Crimes like this target some of the most vulnerable members of our community and protecting children is among the criminal justice system’s most important responsibilities.”

Branson was placed on lifetime sexual offender supervision and is required to register as a sexual offender for LIFE.

The Maryland Sentencing Guidelines recommended a sentence between 10 and 21 years of active incarceration in prison. The Court imposed a sentence at the top of the guidelines range.

Assistant State’s Attorney Zachary Varda handled the sentencing hearing on behalf of the citizens of St. Mary’s County.

Corporal James Warrick of the Maryland State Police was the lead investigator.

The Honorable Amy Lorenzini presided over the case.
