Calvert County Government Provides Clarification Regarding Vera’s Beach Club

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – Aug. 21, 2026 – Calvert County Government and the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) are aware of concerns raised regarding Vera’s Beach Club in Lusby and its inability to obtain a use-and-occupancy permit necessary to open.

The county supports a strong local business community. However, the BOCC does not have authority over the state regulatory approvals at issue. The Calvert County Health Department and its Environmental Health Division are not under the authority of the BOCC to coordinate with the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) on matters within their regulatory jurisdiction.

The Calvert County Administrator has been in communication with representatives from Vera’s Beach Club and environmental health officials. The county will continue to facilitate communication where appropriate while respecting the authority and regulatory responsibilities of the agencies involved.

Questions regarding state environmental or regulatory requirements should be directed to MDE at 410-537-3000.
